Pompano Beach CRA to host two public meetings on plans to improve urban areas
MLK , Jr. Blvd and Downtown Pompano to take new shape
Pompano Beach, FL – Pompano Beach NWCRA will host two public meetings to discuss plans to enhance MLK , Jr. Blvd and the downtown area. The meetings are free and open to the community. A discussion on land use and zoning changes for Downtown Pompano will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2012 , and streetscape improvements and upgraded pedestrian connectivity plans for MLK , Jr. Blvd will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2012 . Both meetings will occur at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center, 520 MLK Blvd , starting at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
“These meetings are an opportunity for the general public to give input about some of the plans in place to improve their community,” Pompano Beach NWCRA Director Floyd Johnson said. “What we are planning today for Pompano Beach will undoubtedly impact our quality of life and the quality of life for generations to come.”
The design plans for theMLK , Jr. Blvd streetscape improvement project is a part of a broader plan to enhance the Downtown corridor. It extends from Dixie Highway to I-95 and will encompass such enhancements as wider sidewalks, landscaping, and pedestrian-friendly light fixtures along MLK Blvd.
“We want to create a main street type of environment onMLK Blvd ,” Johnson continued. “It will help to create a destination area that will benefit the local businesses as well as the surrounding residential communities.”

“The goal for the downtown massing and zoning analysis is to ultimately enhance existing businesses and attract new business to the area,” Johnson explained. “We want to create a vibrant, transit-oriented corridor that will also benefit future generations.”

In the theme of celebrating “It’s How You Feel When You’re Here… because there’s love in the air” Mayor Lamar Fisher will recognize one Pompano Beach couple who met on-line and personify online dating success as the “Prince and Princess” of the singles meet-up. The selected couple will play host to the VIP singles section during the event.
East Village Uncorked is a free monthly art and wine celebration featuring specialty merchants, restaurants, and displays on planned improvements in the East Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). There will be free wine tastings from around the world in participating shops and eclectic interactive artist exhibits. This event is held on the first Friday of each month from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Hosted by the CRA, East Village Uncorked is held in Harbor Village located on the 2600 block of East Atlantic Boulevard and in the neighboring Atlantic Square Shopping Center located on the 2700 block of East Atlantic Boulevard. Free parking is available to the public.
All event attendees will be eligible to win a $50 shopping spree. To participate guests are invited to pick-up a Discovery Tour Guide at participating merchants in Harbor Village, Atlantic Square Shopping Center or at the CRA information booth for a chance to win.
